Whether you’re looking for relaxation, inspiration, or just a great meal, here are some of the best spots to get acquainted with your new home.
The Peabody Memphis
The Peabody Hotel, Memphis’s most historic landmark, originally opened in 1869. In 1925, the hotel relocated to its current iconic location. The Peabody Duck March began in the 1930s as a playful prank by the general manager and his friend, who, after having a bit too much to drink, brought ducks into the hotel. The whimsical idea stuck, and since then, the Peabody Ducks have become a beloved tradition, marching to the lobby fountain daily at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., guided by the Duckmaster. In addition to this, the Peabody offers exquisite dining and drink options, all within its luxurious and glamorous setting.
Sun Studio
Sun Studio, often called the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, is one of Memphis’s most iconic landmarks. Founded in 1950 by Sam Phillips, this legendary recording studio is where music legends like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis launched their careers. Known for its intimate, retro charm, Sun Studio continues to draw visitors from around the world eager to walk in the footsteps of music history and experience the magic where timeless hits were made.
Payne’s BBQ
Memphis boasts an incredible food scene, offering everything from fine dining to casual eats. For those new to the city, one spot that quickly feels like home is Payne’s BBQ. A cherished local favorite since the 1970s, Payne’s serves up flavorful smoked meats paired with their signature tangy mustard-based coleslaw. Located in a no-frills building, this family-run barbecue joint is a true reflection of Memphis’s rich culinary tradition.

Tom Lee Park
Tom Lee Park is a scenic riverfront destination in downtown Memphis, offering stunning views of the Mississippi River. Named after local hero Tom Lee, who saved 32 people from a sinking steamboat in 1925, the park is a favorite spot for walking, picnicking, and community events. With its open green spaces and serene atmosphere, it’s a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the city’s natural beauty.
