To better understand why our perfusionists love their jobs, let’s hear directly from the team themselves.

1. Diane Selby moved to Memphis to start her career with Connect Perfusion, and she has loved the city and her job ever since.

“Memphis is full of history and character, and there are so many fun things to do, from the vibrant nightlife to the family-friendly events.”

2. Ellen Haraway started Connect Perfusion. Now retired, her passion grew throughout her years of experience because of the people she worked with.

“Our team has always been a family to me from the decades long relationships with special surgeons to the great professionals we work with. The people are what have made a difference, and the people who work with Connect care for each other, and they’re great people worth caring for.”

3. One of Kara Brown’s favorite parts of being chief manager and co-owner of Connect is her convenient daily schedule.

“A typical day for me is usually getting to the hospital around 7 a.m. Our cases start at 7:30 a.m. We build a pump, set up the room, and usually do one, maybe two, cases a day. We’re usually done mid-afternoon, and some days I don’t actually have to go to the hospital at all. We only go in when we’re needed which is great!”

4. Jayson Powell, co-owner of Connect, continues to be successful because of the team’s support.

“The connect team is special to work with because we work so well together. Everybody helps each other out. You’re never left alone to fend for yourself.”

5. In Jared Weaver’s 4.5 years of working as a clinical perfusionist at Connect, he found fulfillment. He values the dynamic nature of his work, where every case is different.

“In my background in healthcare, I was very limited in my scope of practice. I like working as a perfusionist because I don’t feel like an afterthought. I’m an essential part of the surgery team, and it’s very rewarding. The other thing I like is that every day is different. I may be doing something familiar, but it isn’t the same.”
