What do you like most about being a perfusionist?

One of the things I love most about being a perfusionist is providing quality patient care. So much about our day is routine as a perfusionist, but every patient brings in their own unique needs and challenges, and it’s really interesting for us to be able to balance those out and work with the team to give the best care to our patients, on an individual basis.

Working in Memphis, we provide all perfusion services for all the cardiovascular surgeries in town, which gives us a wide variety of cases to do. And, every day is different. Every day is fun because no day is like the day before.

I’ve been a perfusionist for over twenty years and I still really love the field. I love my career.

What’s the best thing about working for Connect?

Our perfusionists are really supportive of each other. I can think of times when I’ve had a difficult case scheduled, and so I’ve called one of the other perfusionists and I’ve asked, what would you do in this situation? Or can you come and give me a hand? And every time I’ve done that, I’ve had someone help me out. And that’s been really nice to know that we work together to do what’s best for our patients.


